love seeing more Iceland love here in the States. all of you, plan a visit for this summer!
Since I’ve had a couple of questions about volunteering in Iceland in the past few days, I’d like to point out the tumblr blog of a volunteer in Iceland. Check it out and maybe you could contact him/her for more information about the experience.
If you are just looking for a way to stay in Iceland for a while, then there are more choices for studying in Iceland and working in Iceland. We don’t have a whole lot of options for volunteer work.
wow, hi everyone who came through Iceland Pictures! so glad to see interest and love for this country :)
i am back to real life after my summer volunteering in Iceland, but i do recommend it to anyone looking for an opportunity/reason to visit for an extended period of time.
i went through a program called Worldwide Friends, i found it and got in touch via Service Civil International. i picked my program volunteering in the greenhouses at the NLFI because i am interested in local food/health/wellness and also admittedly not good at roughin’ it for extended periods of time.
basically, you pay for your flight out there and exchange volunteer work for lodging and food. Worldwide Friends appoints group leaders at each “work camp” who are sort of your liason to the Icelanders. my group had volunteers from a ton of different countries, we had great Icelandic hosts as well - i would love to go back someday.
enough babbling, that’s the jist of it, happy to answer any questions you might have!
